How to Start Honda Keyless Scooters When All Keys Are Lost (Using the 9-Digit ID Code)
Losing all smart keys for your Honda scooter can be stressful, but many models such as the PCX, Forza, SH Mode and Super Cub 125 include an emergency ID system that allows access and key registration when you still have the 9-digit ID code from the original tag.
This guide from Smart Fobs explains how the emergency ID input mode works on smart key scooters manufactured by Honda Motor Company, and how it enables programming of new keys after all originals are lost.
What Is the 9-Digit ID Code?
Every Honda smart key scooter is supplied with a small ID tag containing a unique 9-digit code.
This code allows the Smart Control Unit to verify ownership and temporarily unlock the ignition when no working smart keys are present.
It is also required before new smart keys can be programmed in an all-keys-lost situation.
When This Procedure Applies
Use this process if:
-
All smart keys are lost
-
You still have the original 9-digit ID code
-
The scooter battery is charged
-
You have access to the emergency mode connector (under the seat or body panel depending on model)
If the ID code is unavailable, specialist EEPROM or diagnostic programming is normally required.
Step 1: Set Up ID Number Input Mode
-
Use the emergency mechanical key to open the seat.
-
Remove the battery cover.
-
Locate and pull out the EM mode connector.
-
Remove the blue dummy coupler by releasing the tab while lifting the hook.
-
Check the 9-digit ID number on the ID tag.
-
Connect the EM mode coupler (from the tool kit) into the EM mode connector.
This places the scooter into ID input standby mode.

Step 2: Input the 9-Digit ID Code
You will now enter the ID code using the ignition switch knob.
The code is entered digit by digit from left to right.
Each digit is confirmed by pressing the ignition switch a specific number of times within a timed window.
How the Input Works
-
When the ignition ring illuminates, you have 5 seconds to input the digit
-
Press the ignition switch the same number of times as the digit
-
After 5 seconds, the ring turns off and back on, confirming that digit is stored
-
You can then input the next digit
If the ring does not illuminate blue, the scooter battery may be low.
Example Digit Entry
-
To input “0”: Do not press the ignition switch for 5 seconds
-
To input “1”: Press the ignition switch once within 5 seconds
-
To input “5”: Press the ignition switch five times within 5 seconds
Repeat this process for all 9 digits in order.

Step 3: Confirm Successful ID Entry
If the ID number is entered correctly:
-
The ignition switch ring and Honda Smart Key indicator will flash every 2 seconds
-
This continues until the EM mode coupler is removed
At this point, the ignition switch is unlocked and the scooter can be turned ON.
You must remove the EM mode coupler and refit the blue dummy coupler before starting the engine.
Turn the ignition ON within 6 minutes to start the scooter.
Step 4: If ID Input Fails
If the ID number is entered incorrectly:
-
The ignition ring and smart key indicator will flash every second
-
The ignition will remain locked
To retry:
-
Disconnect the EM mode coupler
-
Reconnect it again
-
Re-enter the full 9-digit code from the beginning
Step 5: Programming New Smart Keys After ID Unlock
Once the ignition has been successfully unlocked using the ID code, the scooter can then be placed into smart key registration mode using professional programming equipment or authorised procedures.
This allows new smart keys to be paired to the Smart Control Unit.
Because all original keys are lost, every new key must be registered during the same session so the system can store them in memory.
Important Notes
-
Always store the EM mode coupler back in the tool kit after use
-
Keep the 9-digit ID tag in a safe place separate from the scooter
-
Weak scooter batteries can interrupt ID input mode
-
Any mistake during entry requires restarting the process from the beginning
